Welcome to esaan! Hi! My name is Jai, I am proud to welcome you to my restaurant located in the heart of the art and cultural district in downtown York, Pennsylvania. I was born and raised in the Sakon Nakhon province in northeastern Thailand. This area, known as the Esaan region, is also the birthplace of many of Thailand’s popular dishes. After I met my husband Sam, we traveled around the globe serving the US Army and raising our family until we retired to York in the late 1980’s. Wherever we lived, I made a point to try the local dishes, but I also continued to make the Thai dishes I loved. Opening a Thai restaurant is something I have dreamed about for many years. With the encouragement of my friends and family, I decided to go for it! I am so excited to see the growing availability of fresh ingredients, both local and exotic, that allow me to give you the flavors that make Thai food so distinct. Keep an eye on our menu—seasonality of certain ingredients may mean new dishes for you to try! If you are not familiar with Thai food, but are curious, I encourage you to stop by and talk with us so that we can find a suitable match for your palate. Don’t forget, spicy doesn’t have to equal hot, and you can enjoy a range from sweet to mild to hot foods here!
